Afghan passport labelled as least powerful in the world

Externa nyheter In the latest international ranking of passports conducted by the Henley Global Institute, Afghanistan’s passport has once again been identified as the least trusted passport in the world and is placed last in the list. Afghanistan is ranked 112 after Pakistan, Syria and Iraq with only 27 destinations available to its holders.

Germany Starts New Admission Programme for Afghan Refugees

Externa nyheter Berlin has pledged to take in around 38,000 Afghans particularly at risk, and some 26,000 people have already arrived in Germany.
The new programme will admit 1,000 Afghans per month and their family members. It targets particularly exposed Afghans who are active in women's and human rights advocacy or those at risk for working in the fields of justice, politics, media, education, culture, sport or science.

Japan Begins Limited Diplomatic Activities in Kabul

Externa nyheter Japan's foreign minister, Yoshimasa Hayashi, said during a press conference in Tokyo that his country had resumed limited diplomatic relations with Afghanistan after a hiatus of more than a year.
"At the moment, the Japanese Embassy in Kabul has begun its limited activity and is doing the minimum necessary work. For security reasons, I refrain from mentioning the details," he continued.

Afghan GDP Estimated to Further Contract This Year: World Bank

Externa nyheter The World Bank released a development update on Afghanistan, in which it estimated that the real GDP is projected to contract further in 2022, with an accumulated contraction of close to 30-35 percent between 2021 and 2022.
The report said the economy of the country is now readjusting, and the international community's ongoing off-budget support for humanitarian needs and basic services is expected to mitigate some of the negative impacts of the contraction but it will still be not sufficient to bring the economy back onto a sustainable recovery path.

Regression in Afghan Women and Girls’ Rights is ‘Unprecedented’, Says Bennett

Externa nyheter The UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, said that severe restrictions and barriers have been put in place in Afghanistan intended to render women “invisible” in society, a setback “unprecedented” in the country’s history.
The current deterioration in the rights of Afghan women and girls, according to Bennett, is unprecedented in the history of Afghanistan.

Opium cultivation up nearly a third, warns UNODC

The judges considered that Afghanistan is not presently carrying out genuine investigations in a manner that would justify a deferral of the Court’s investigations.
